bridal potpourri – michele landers

Below is an interview with Bridal Potpourri’s, Michele Landers:

What are the most helpful things for
a client to come prepared with when they first meet with you?

Ideas that they have jotted down,
pictures from magazines or ideas from other weddings that they have attended
that they might adapt to their wedding.

What are some of your favorite
‘trends’ that you’re seeing?

The use of bold color in
invitations, still very elegant but with a spot of color using bands and
ribbons, borders and lots of new ink color choices.

Square candle groupings for
reception table centerpieces and square tables that seat 12
guests

What are your tips for brides for
incorporating their personal style into their day?

They need to think about what is it
about them as a unique couple that they want their guests to know.

How do they want their guests to
feel at the end of the day?

What do they want their guests to
take away from their wedding experience.

How do you work with clients from
out of town?

We assist a lot of out of town
clients, with email, faxes, and cell phones it hardly seems that they are not
right here in town!

When they do make it to town, we
schedule meetings with all the necessary vendors, the bride and groom meet at our
office and we have the vendors come one by one to meet with them here, so that
they do not waste time driving all over town.  We bring lunch in and although
intense, it really accomplishes a lot very quickly.

What are the top three reasons (in
your opinion) that couples should consider hiring a planner?

Most are unaware of the time it
takes to plan a wedding, the best ways to find vendors that suit their needs,
and how to make sure they get the most for the money that they are spending.  A
good planner will relieve stress and save the bride time and money, a great
planner will make the planning process fun and memorable.

What do you consider your
specialty?

Outdoor Weddings and Out-of-town
Brides.  I personally do a lot of outdoor weddings and am very comfortable
working with the extra vendors it takes, having Plan B & C ready if the
weather doesn’t cooperate, and making the guests as comfortable as possible
given the unusual circumstances that arise at outdoor events. Also, many of my
brides are from out of town.  I think in the case of both of these types of
weddings, the brides realize early on that they are going to need help in order
to pull it off without being totally stressed.  I think they choose me as their
consultant because I have done over 50 outdoor weddings in the last 8 years and
at least 4-5 brides a year are out of state girls coming home to get
married.

bridal potpourri – kate webster

Below is an interview with wedding planner, Kate Webster of Bridal Potpourri. As a photographer, I adore wedding planners…they handle the little unexpected issues that pop up so that you can enjoy your day more.  I’m a huge advocate of having a consultant…it’s hard to even express how much better they can make it! I hope this interview & the ones that follow will help you find one that’s a great fit for you.  -m-

What are the most helpful things for
a client to come prepared with when they first meet with
you?

It’s good to have a guest
count or estimate in mind before making any plans for the wedding.  It is also
recommended that you discuss the wedding budget with the appropriate parties.
This can be a difficult topic for discussion, but it will make the rest of the
process much easier on you and your parents, if everyone knows what to
expect.

What are some of your favorite
‘trends’ that you’re seeing?

I love that brides aren’t
afraid to try new and exciting locations for their wedding ceremonies and
receptions.  An art museum, vineyard, and a river boat are among my
favorite settings for recent weddings.

What are your tips for brides for
incorporating their personal style into their day?

Reflect on your
relationship: what is the season, activity, food, music, etc. that you
enjoy most?  Then develop a clever way of incorporating one or more of those
elements into the weekend.  For example:  One of our couples study and live
in Baltimore but married in Kentucky, so they welcomed each guest with a basket
of their favorite Maryland snacks along with photos of them together at various
sites around the state.

How do you work with clients from
out of town?

Our "out-of-town" brides get
lots of computer time!  We exchange research, information and ideas via e-mail.
We also find it helpful to create an itinerary for their visits to town in order
to maximize the limited amount of "on-site" planning time.

What are the top three reasons (in
your opinion) that couples should consider hiring a planner?

You would like tips and
advice from experienced professionals

You want to enjoy the
wedding day without worry

Your mother wants to enjoy
the wedding day without worry

What do you consider your
specialty?

My specialty is listening
to my clients.  Every bride and wedding is different, so listening to each
bride’s requests and finding a way to make their ideas happen is key.  I enjoy
the challenge and I especially love the smile on a bride’s face at the end of
a the day.

Below are some photos from a wedding that Kate planned & I photographed…she even made the floral arrangements!  The ceremony & reception were both at my favorite restaurant in the whole wide world Holly Hill Inn (Midway, KY).
