FAQ
How far in advance are you booked?
I’m so glad you asked! Early! If you’d love a session in October, i start booking in June but if you’re interested in a time other than Sept-October and April-June, I’m not booked as far in advance but recommend a solid month or more so you’ll have options.
How do I book a session?
I’m so thrilled we’re about to have a ton of fun! Hop over here and we’ll be in touch!
How do I prepare for a session?
Again, with the perfect questions!! For portraits, think about what you want to capture…and also something your children or family could be doing. We’ll set up a time to chat and then come up with a fun plan, talk about clothing, etc!
What should we wear?
This is on everyone’s mind the second they start thinking about photos! I have a guide I’ll send your way but also love collecting ideas here take a peek to get the wheels turning on colors, etc to explore. A few guidelines: think about something you can comfortably sit in (because we don’t want to stand the whole time), clothing appropriate to the location & season (so you aren’t cold/hot) and I definitely prefer classic over ‘this is so hot right now!’)
because i want your images to have longevity….style stays, fashion doesn’t.
because i want your images to have longevity….style stays, fashion doesn’t.A handful of other tips: don’t feel like you totally have to avoid prints (we can chat about this on the phone), white can be great but it can limit how I can shoot so use it with discretion, always dress the hardest person in the shot first (and then build the other outfits around that one)…I love when the outfits play well together but also appreciate it when it’s not matchy-matchy.
Do you travel?
Absolutely! And not just for weddings – we’ve flown for portrait sessions as well…we sprinkle a few travel assignments in each year. You might also want to consider our ‘in your city’ sessions.
What do we do if it rains?
My heart sinks when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate…it happens less often than you’d imagine but since camera gear (& hair!) doesn’t like to get wet, we absolutely have to reschedule for sprinkles. We make that judgment call the day of the session (because weather here shifts frequently) but well before you start getting ready.
What should we bring?
I love when you have a washable blanket available…and if it’s something darling/handmade you’d prefer not to wash, feel free to bring a not so cute blanket to go under it (that’s how we end up with sweet quilts in fields). For children, have something handy they can eat/drink. Otherwise, just bring your happy selves! It’s important to fight the anxiety that may come about making things ‘perfect’ – this experience of being photographed will be much more low-key than you’re probably used to. Just give yourself plenty of time to prepare clothing/hair. Don’t worry a bit if a child loses a tooth (I’ve had it happen AT a session!) or gets a bump/scrape before. We can talk about specifics but it shouldn’t be an issue with the final outcome.
Make this a fun experience…plan ice cream/dinner afterwards and write your husband or children a sweet note the night before about how glad you are that you’re doing this so you can remember this incredible time in your lives.
Bring as little or as much as you like – if there’s a teddy bear that your little one drags around, it would be wonderful to include briefly at the end.
What are [ limited edition ] and [ in your city ] sessions?
Occasionally, I offer [ limited edition ] sessions at select locations – they are abbreviated (up to 20 minutes long and focused around a specific idea). They’re announced on the blog (and fill up like lightening) and are the perfect way to get occasional photographs more often than your once or twice a year shoots. With [ in your city ], we travel! Our Travel & Events page provides a peek at our plans!
What are your [ day in the life ] sessions?
Imagine an entire day artfully recorded…getting ready, a trip to the park, bubbles, making cookies, going to the bookstore, dinner, riding bikes…I’m yours for up to 8 hours. We love to create amazing books of these days…and it’s perfect for capturing a day at your vacation home as well.
How long will it be before my proofs/prints arrive and how much do clients typically spend?
Your proofs from portrait sessions are delivered in 4 weeks. Prints and products are delivered in 4-8 weeks (bound books and albums take longer due to the nature of their production.) We don’t have a minimum order (except when making custom cards or traveling out of our area) because meeting the needs of every client is incredibly important to us. Most clients spend an average of $2000-4000.
How much is a session?
Up to one hour session at a Lexington location is $375. Prints for tabletops start at $45 and prints for your walls start at $175.
May i purchase a gift certificate for a friend?
Absolutely – they’re available in any amount starting at $50. We’re happy to ship to the recipient on your behalf or to you. A great baby shower gift!
What’s the best way to get in touch?
I’m often on-location so email is the perfect way to reach me. To chat by phone/skype, we schedule phone appointments so you can have my undivided time and attention.
